A Massive Simple Right Renal Cyst Presenting as Abdominal Distension: A Case Report

Abstract

Background: Massive renal cysts, which are greater than 15cm or contain more than 1.5L of fluid, are rare benign renal lesions that can mimic ascites or abdominal tumours.

Case Presentation: We report a 34-year-old man with a 20-year history of progressive abdominal distension caused by a 15 L right simple renal cyst. He underwent a right simple nephrectomy with excellent postoperative recovery.

Conclusion: Giant renal cysts may present insidiously and mimic other causes of abdominal distension. Timely imaging and surgical intervention yield excellent outcomes.
